    This past weekend I was busy training the Level I Teacher Course about mantra and kirtan at Golden Bridge Yoga NY. It was twelve great hours doing what I love to do.
    A student in the class asked if silent meditation is the same as chanting. I immediately recalled the saying on the Yogi Bhajan calendar from this past week. He said that some people think that by meditating the mind will become silent...actually the mind becomes totally active and a pile of subconscious garbage starts getting dumped into the conscious mind. If you keep up with chanting the mantra and discarding those thoughts and not relating to them, you will actually release the subconscious refuse and purity of mind will surface.

Ignite the Light Switch

Where do I find you and how will I know?
No one had  your address, and I was not sure
    where to go.

Searching for happiness was a puzzle,
    and a test.
Seeking others opinions, caused my
    ‘monkey mind’ to jest.

Who made me like this to go through the day
    with a frown?
My mind's rambling thoughts threw my life
    upside down.

Breathe deeply, listen clearly, immerse in
    the Naam and smile.
Hey, mind, Chant fully, this yoga is in style.

You have been on the right path and now
    you do know.
Absorbing into the mantra got the mental
    ‘blah blah’  to go.

All the answers lay dormant while to
    someplace else I ran.
How perfect to find the focus within
    that reveals God’s Naam.

While once I was in darkness and life
    seemed a bitch,
I now do kirtan for I have found
    my Light switch.
